Our Projects
CARE Belgium is currently active in 8 countries (in Belgium, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Lebanon, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Romania and Togo) through 10 projects whose main objectives are the promotion of gender equality, respect for women's rights and their economic empowerment, health, food security, climate resilience and humanitarian action in emergency situations, whether natural or man-made.
All CARE projects are built on a holistic approach, intervening in complementary areas in order to effectively combat the interdependence of the causes of poverty. We place women, who are the first victims of poverty and also the agents of change, at the heart of all our actions.
Enabel has been one of our privileged partners since 2021. This institutional development player has placed its trust in us and is committed alongside CARE Belgium to supporting our projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Palestine.
Benin/Togo:
Socio-economic empowerment
We empower vulnerable young people and women in northern Benin by improving their skills, reducing poverty and preventing radicalization.
DRC - Health
North Kivu is facing health crises exacerbated by instability. We are improving access to healthcare in Butembo and Beni by providing medicines, training staff and rehabilitating infrastructure.
Belgium - Advocacy/Awareness
Awareness-raising and advocacy activities: As part of the ‘CLIMATE CHANGE IS SEXIST’ campaign, an event highlighted the impact of climate change on gender inequalities, pointing out that women, especially in vulnerable countries, are more affected by climate disasters. Global Citizenship Education (GCSE) workshops raised students' awareness of global issues and the SDGs, encouraging them to take concrete action for a more united and sustainable future.
Palestine - Mental health
We support young people in the West Bank and East Jerusalem by providing mental health services and strengthening community integration in a context of ongoing conflict.
Romania - Family Planning
We have been running a family planning programme for 20 years, offering medical support and contraception to vulnerable women in Romania.
Lebanon - Humanitarian Emergency
We are providing essential support to displaced populations by supplying them with food, water, hygiene kits and much more during a severe economic crisis.
Morocco - Miftah Anajah
We promote quality education and training for learners in Morocco by strengthening inclusive governance, engaging multi-stakeholder networks and encouraging innovation in education.
DRC - Food security
We are strengthening farm households in Kasaï Oriental by promoting sustainable agriculture and empowering women to make decisions and play an economic role.
